Introductory Physical Chemistry by National Open University of Nigeria
The aim of this note is to create an in-depth
awareness and develop full understanding of the concept of energy as the
capacity for change in any chemical reaction and moreover that strong
relationship between energy and structure of matter is the foundation of
physical chemistry. Topics covered includes: Separation Techniques, Gaseous
State Of Matter , Ideal Gases, The Kinetic Theory Of Gases, Real Gases,
Liquefaction of Gases, Solid and Liquid States of Matter, Solutions and Phase
Equilibria.
This note provides the students
a thorough knowledge about different terminologies in thermodynamics and the
continuity between different states of matter. It will explain impart an idea
behind basic principles of electrochemistry.
This
note covers the following topics: Composition and Physical States of Matter,
Colligative Properties, Thermodynamics, Refractive index, Solutions, Ionic
equilibrium, Electrochemistry.
The objective of this note is to
learn under what conditions the matter changes and to formulate the change in
terms of thermodynamic variables, and also learn the basic principles of
statistical thermodynamics for understanding the molecular motion, chemical
reactions, and kinetics. In this lecture, we first understand the core concepts
of physical chemistry, and apply them to various situations with physical
interpretation.
This
note explains the following topics: A Physical Description of Nature, Transport
Processes - Sedimentation, Calculus Review, Thermodynamics - Heat, Work and
Energy, Entropy and Free Energy, Bioenergetics and Molecular Interactions,
Proteins - Structure and Function, Structure Determination.
This textbook which seeks to give students, majoring in chemistry and
chemical engineering, a brief introduction to physical chemistry in the
intermediate college years, and also to meet the needs of students who are
preparing for medicine, biology, geology, agriculture, and other branches of
engineering.
This book in PDF format is available completely free of charge. It is a revised
and enlarged version of the first edition published in hard-cover format in 2001
by Prentice Hall. Thermodynamics and Chemistry is designed primarily as a textbook for a
one-semester course in classical chemical thermodynamics at the graduate or
undergraduate level.
Author(s): Howard DeVoe, Associate Professor Emeritus, University
of Maryland
This book
illustrated the concept of physical chemistry by schematic figures, simple
worked-out examples, and a short accompanying text. The concept of the book
makes it different from common university or physical chemistry textbooks.
This note covers the
following topics: Thermodynamics: First Law, Entropy and Free Energy, Phase
Equilibria, Solutions and Chemical Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Electrolyte
Solutions and Kinetics.
